Gill Pill Season
By Walt & Poppee Matan
If we could pack a whole season into one month, March would be the month. For most anglers March is the month of anticipation, but for us it’s Gill Pill season!
March is the month of panfish–why? Because most anglers have given up on themx so that’s more for us!
When March arrives, Illinois anglers await the opening of cooling plant waters and Wisconsin anglers head to the rivers, since the rivers are the only waters where the season is still open for walleye. Minnesota anglers head to Wisconsin too or whatever rivers are open in their home state and not flooded. But we will fish wherever there is walkable ice and a sizeable panfish population and we’ll keep walking up north until the ice melts away, because the best fishing of the year is right now, at last ice!
Crappies, bluegills and perch are the target and the Custom Jigs & Spins Gill Pill is the lure. But not just any Gill Pill, but a pumped up version rigged with plastic and a smooshed waxie. Pick up Frabill’s new 26" Quick Tip Walt & Poppee rod and add a Frabill Spring Bobber for the most action you can get while panfishing.
