Posted by Matthew J. Breuer on Feb 15th 2019
If you’re an avid ice fisherman, no doubt you’ve encountered negative panfish. Bluegills and crappies that you can mark on your electronics, but can’t for the life of you get them to bite!

Posted by Walt Matan on Jan 22nd 2019
We’ve had many good days on the ice. We’ve caught crappie, bluegill, catfish, walleye, white bass, northern pikexyou name it, we’ve caught it. But, we can count days that can truly be called BIG, only a few times. A big day is one, where you can do no wrong. Every decision you makes, leads to fish. Panfish are simple creatures. They eat, sleep and spawn to survive. In between these activities they look for better places to eat, sleep, and spawn; like I said panfish are simple creatures! "Whoooaaah look at that bluegill," exclaimed Poppee.
"No, that’s a pumpkinseed," I said.
"That bluegill is a pumpkinseed?"
"No, that pumpkinseed is a Pumpkinseed."

I looked around and it was dark ...time for crappie.
We moved more towards the weed edge, and sure enough the crappie appeared suspended up on the Marcum locator face. If we lowered our jigs to right above the suspended fish, we started to catch a few. We had made the switch to larger sized jigs (since crappie have bigger mouths).
By 10 p.m. we had caught enough. We had one of our more successful days/nights on the ice.
By nature Poppee and I prefer ice fishing in shallow water. But when the fish are biting in deep water in the middle of winter, then that'
