Summertime Action: Fishing with the Family!
When I was a kid my father Poppee used to take me fishing. The only problem was that neither of us knew how to fish. I was the one that had the urge to spend all of my free time fishing and when you are five years old, you have a lot of free time! All I needed was a pole, some bobbers, hooks, worms and some water. We spent a lot of time fishing and not catching fish until we met up with a fellow janitor, neighbor and my honorary Grandpa, Mike Dozer. Jig and Plastic combinations made from AuthentX Plastic like Ringworms, Moxi's, Paddletails, K-Grubs, and pulse-R's have been added to my arsenal. The Dubuque Rig I've fished in Dubuque, Iowa. It's about an hour away from my house. Up there on the Mississippi River is where the Dubuque rig was born. This river rig works well for slipping or dragging downstream or pulling upstream in low water conditions. A good s …

Blade Baits are Hot!
If you're a river fisherman, chances are you've got some blade baits in your tackle box. You probably don't use them very much...which is a big mistake, because when the water cools down to near freezing it's a time when the vibration of blade baits creates a motion that walleye, sauger and white bass can't resist! What is a blade bait? A blade bait is a metal crank bait that features two sets of treble hooks, one on each end. It relies on vibration and sound to get the fish to react on a reaction strike. A blade bait consists of a flat metal spoon with a weighted nose. The blade bait …

Best Fishing Trips: Have Some Fun in Canada
We’ve had some great fishing trips in Canada. We’ve gone to drive-to destinations and brought our own boat and we’ve taken all inclusive fly-in trips. With few exceptions, they have all been great trips. A week fishing in Canada still carries a mythical quality. A Canadian fishing vacation is still the holy grail of angling to the Midwestern angler! For our money, nothing beats bringing your own boat loaded down with all the fishing lures. Whether you have a 16 footer rigged with the basics or an 18 footer loaded up with all the latest gadgets, chances are your boat will be better than us …
